This paper describes an integrated risk approach to auditing developed in the European Community project I-Risk . A major hazard installation at a particular plant is the focus of a technical model. Supplied with this information, along with other documentation of the plant, a safety management audit is tailored and carried out to modify particular parameters within the technical model.
The execution of this approach at a Dutch refinery proved that this integrated approach is well on its way to maturity although several important points still have to be resolved.
